Creative Writing Final Exam
Intro:
My name is Regan Miner, and I have a confession to make. I was not born a creative writer. I wasn't born with the ability to whip up interesting poetry, or humorous fiction stories. I was born a prompt writer. Give me a topic, one I know about, and I could go on for day. I've had to practice, and study creative works through the help of this class. Now as the semester is wrapping up, I've learned a lot, and created a lot. Some of my best works are listed below.
The First Genre.
Black was a poem that I wrote after the Poem Anthology project was already done; I never planned to include it, and never imagined I could be so proud of something I never used a Mentor Text for.

A cloak of black.
Sickening tendrils that slither Up your spine-- Inching it's was closer To your sanity. You can feel it constantly, But the true anguish comes When they wrap around Every organ in your body, Lock tight-- And sink their razor sharp teeth Straight into every inch of your being. In an instant, Toxic venom courses through your veins, Into your heart, And pumps to your brain. The poisons attack your nerves-- Unable to move Heart beating, Body sweating, Tingling chills throughout. Engulfed in nightmares and phobias, The tiny monsters prey on the courage, And revel in the pain. Don't let it take over, whatever you do. Because the second you give up, They pounce, They feed, And they suck 'till you are bone dry. |
The Second Genre.
Rockstar is a poem inspired by the slam poem Beethoven by Shane Koyczan. It's creative and powerful with its repeating words and deep meaning. I wrote about "rockstars" in general, but my inspiration was Jacoby Shaddix, the lead singer of the rock band Papa Roach
Listen.
The life of a Rockstar isn't always so perfect.
You want me to entertain--amaze--give yourself a lasting name;
And it works.
But you have drugs and alcohol
Commandeering your life--
Taking hold of your marriage.
Your fame.
Your rights.
Rockstar.
Your words are like prophecies,
Healing the broken--
Homes that lay cursed in the lives of your blood brothers.
Your own demons forcing you to put up a front
To the world who adores you because you,
Are a legend.
Rockstar.
You do the best you can,
To raise your kids while gone so long.
Wondering,
When they'll call for their father;
But you won't be there like yours was to you.
So as you step on that stage ready to
Amaze.
Inspire.
Entertain.
You'll rock your heart out because it's what's best for them.
Rockstar.
Your life isn't easy.
Every kind of addiction slithering through
Your soul
While you only try for one thing--
To make people

The Third Genre.
The Perfect A-Z Encyclopedia on How to Get Through The King-Miner Household
For our Non Traditional personal narrative, I chose to write an encyclopedia on things important to me, and my household. My mentor text, Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life by Amy Krouse Rosenthal inspired me to use lots of humor, personality, and pictures of course. Since I made a book out of my encyclopedia, here are a few pictures of some of my favorite letters.
